University of Galway Ireland Hardiman PhD Scholarships 2025 (Fully Funded) is available to undertake PhD level programs at University of Galway.
The scholarships support research excellence across five key areas:
- Enhancing Policy and Society
- Enriching Creativity and Culture
- Improving Health and Wellbeing
- Realizing Potential through Data and Enabling Technologies
- Sustaining Our Planet and People
The Hardiman PhD Scholarships provide exceptional candidates with:
- A generous stipend of €25,000 per year for four years.
- Full coverage of tuition fees for the duration of the PhD.
This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a first or upper second-class honors degree (or equivalent).
- Be a new entrant to PhD studies (current or past PhD students are ineligible).
- Meet the English language requirements outlined by the University of Galway.
Find a Supervisor
- Identify and nominate a supervisor aligned with your research interests.
- A completed Supervisor Form must be submitted by 7 February 2025, 17:00 (Irish Time).

- Complete the official application form, available in English and Irish.
- Ensure submission by the deadline: 7 February 2025, 17:00 (Irish Time).
Provide Academic References
- Secure two academic references to support your application.
- References must also be submitted by the closing date.
Assessment Process
Your application will be evaluated based on:
- Personal Research Statement (50 points)
- Academic Qualifications (30 points)
- Referees’ Reports (10 points)
- Prior Research Experience (10 points)
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews between 10 April and 23 April 2025, conducted via Skype, MS Teams, or Zoom.
